These are my thoughts on what it takes to become a professional in our field. I have thought long and hard about how I can be remembered in my artwork. I have spent hours upon end toiling simply over what subject to draw or paint that will grab and take hold of the viewer in a way that leaves it’s mark. Much in the same way a rubber stamp is pressed from ink into parchment; the ink is like memory drawn from one well to be transferred to another. When I feel like I am in an intense moment of creation, it’s almost as though my mind’s eye is bleeding into the outside world. Sometimes it gets so intense I feel like I’m tracing – but I’m tracing an artwork as it is being born.
Those times recur more frequently as I practice my art. I’m no modern Instagram or YouTube god, and I am not a certified teacher, but I am experienced so hear me out. Just create what you want. Yes. Create with intention. Create with no intention. I don’t care as long as it’s what you want to do. The more you focus on what you want, the more you focus on solving how to achieve your goals. If said goal doesn’t fall within your current experience level, then make the next chapter of your journey toward obtaining the skills you require. Rinse. Repeat. No one should care more about where you are headed in this life than you. What I am saying is . . .
